Beyond the Country House – opportunities outside the main house?

About Simon Foster

Simon began his career as a Location Manager for the BBC. In 1994 he became General Manager of Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire, where he developed a successful and widely respected historic house business, promoting the castle as a popular visitor attraction and venue for weddings and corporate events.

Simon was instrumental in building a public events programme in the castle and park and encouraging the organisers of The Big Chill music festival to move their event to Eastnor in 2003, where it grew from a 5,000 to 40,000 ticket event . He is still retained by Eastnor as their Commercial Advisor.
Simon set up his own consultancy in 2007 and used his extensive experience to advise an impressive list of historic house and rural estate clients. Continuing to advise clients on a number of related issues, he joined Savills in May 2015, to set up a new Commercial Heritage department.

It is often not practical to offer use of the Country House for tourism or event use. It may be too small or precious. Sometimes commercial use is not possible or desirable alongside family occupation.
